When you rent a vehicle, do you know what your liability
is if you’re involved in an accident? Currently
16 states (including California) recognize legislation
that says rental and leasing companies can be held liable.
Congress, however, recently passed legislation that
now limits accident and damage liability to rental and
leasing companies, thus superseding state legislation.
What does that mean to you? Make sure you’re
adequately insured when renting or leasing vehicles.
Check your insurance policy to make sure you’re
covered when renting or leasing—and understand
the fine print. Also consider using a credit card
that automatically covers your rental or leased vehicle
if it’s damaged. Again—read and understand
the fine print.
If you are involved in a rental car accident, and you
find yourself playing “he said, she said”
with the rental, leasing and insurance companies, let
us know. We will help you sort through the issues. |
