Summer is heating up and it’s time to go outside, explore, and have some fun new adventures. For many of us, heading to different locations entails using Uber or Lyft to get to our destination. In fact, over the past few years, the use of app-based ride share transportation has become so prevalent that the net effect has been more cars on the road.

One study indicates that in nine major cities where Uber and Lyft operate, including Los Angeles, the number of automobiles on city streets has increased by 3%! A key contributor to this is the practice of ‘deadheading,’ which is basically driving around in highly populated areas looking for fares. According to research, most app-based taxi drivers spend 30-60% of their time on the roads hunting for passengers.

Between the increased number of Uber and Lyft drivers on the streets, the newfound popularity of motorized electric scooters, such as Bird and Lime, and other potential road hazards such as skateboards, bicycles, and pedestrians, it is more important than ever to be very careful when driving, riding, or walking. If you are attending a bar-b-que, pool party or other social event, especially one where they are serving alcohol, please make sure to have a designated driver or use a taxi service to get there and back home safely.

As always, we are here to help and appreciate your trust and referrals. If you or someone you know has been injured in Uber or Lyft accident, a car accident or any other type of accident listed in this enclosure, please call our the office at 323-651-0125 or my cell phone at 310-528-7003.
